Bee and I met nearly
seven years ago at University. We'd seen each other around during some
lectures but only met properly on a night out with friends in the
student union. The following day we bumped into each other and to my
delight she asked me out. I instantly liked her confidence and said yes!
We started dating and have had an amazing time with each other ever
since!
In November 2002 we flew out to Rome to get engaged, on what was a
surprise weekend away for Bee. I remembered one of the first things she
had told me was that her favourite place in the world was the Sistine
Chapel, so I thought were better to propose then there.
We were both
incredibly excited to be there and I was very nervous of what lay
ahead. I tried to propose on the Saturday but we ended up in
the wrong place and I started to feel that this wasn't going to be how
I imagined. Luckily for us it was open on Sunday (most weeks its
closed on Sunday). After lots of queuing and walking around we finally
reached the place it was going to happen. By this stage I was really
eager to propose before anything else went wrong!
Just as I was
about to get down on one knee there was a loud announcement requesting
that no photos are taken. I had to style it out and look like I wasn't
up to anything. As soon as that finished I waited a moment, clutching
the ring behind my back trying to look calm. Again I was about to do
it and they decided to play the announcement again in seven different
languages! I'm not normally superstitious but I thought someone was
trying to tell me something.
Finally things
quietened down again and I kneeled down on one knee and asked Bee if
she'd marry me. I barely finished when she grabbed me with both arms,
overwhelmed with emotion and said a tearful 'yes'. We were both
totally over the moon. It was the perfect moment in a perfect place.
A moment in both our lives that we'll never forget!
At present we are looking at various ideas
for our wedding. We've not set a date yet but looking at summer 2005.
Its really confusing at
times since you need to try and keep everyone happy and just when you
think you've cracked it something always comes up and we're back to
square one! Neither of us want a big wedding so we're thinking of
holding a small intimate register wedding and then throwing a party
afterwards.
We've not booked venues yet and are
getting constant reminders!!
